Who We Are
Mixteca Organization Inc.'s mission is to empower the Mexican and Latin-American immigrant population of the New York area by providing easy access to services that will enhance their quality of life and allow them to reach sustainable social and economic development. Despite our small budget, we have a variety of programs and projects that respond to the manifold needs of this underserved and often marginalized population.

These include: health outreach and education; HIV counseling, testing and referral to care; ESOL courses; Adult Basic Education and Literacy, offered through the Mexican Institute for Adult Education (INEA in Spanish), computer and Internet literacy classes; an on-line distance learning collaborative with the private Mexican university Instituto Technologico de Monterrey; after-school tutoring for middle and high school students; summer Mexican history classes for kids, and information and referral services.

Our History
Mixteca Organization, Inc is a grass-roots, 501(C)(3) community-based organization located in Sunset Park that was established in 2000 by a group of concerned community members under the leadership of Dr. Gabriel Rincon - a local dentist and prominent community figure - to respond to the host of critical health, educational, social, legal and needs facing the burgeoning Mexican and Latin American immigrant community settling in South Brooklyn.

The Organization’s founding was a long and painstaking process that was achieved through much sacrifice and at the personal expense of our founders and countless community members. Financial limitations and constraints were arduously overcome thanks to the effort and contributions of hundreds of community members and support from the philanthropic community. After years of work and thanks to the labor of many, our community’s hope of establishing a place for families to learn, socialize and receive vital services has finally become a reality.

Take the B63 to 23rd Street and 5th Avenue. Walk down 5th Avenue to 23rd Street and take left toward 6th Avenue. We are located at 245 23rd Street between 5th and 6th Avenue above the “Living Room Lounge”.
Using NYC Subway:
Take the M or R train to 25 Street (and 4th Avenue). Walk two blocks North to 23rd Street and one block East (uphill) to 5th Avenue. We are located at 245 23rd Street between 5th and 6th Avenue above the “Living Room Lounge”.
